Earlier this week we were sitting with Gracie in her living room doing devotions, our normal routine 3 days a week. She randomly stood up and walked to the other room. When she came back, our faces lit up with utter joy and we erupted with squeals of excitement when we saw what she had in her hands……….bite sized Hershey bars. It was by far the best two bites of chocolate I have ever had, literally made my day.
After we laughed at our ridiculous reaction to tiny pieces of chocolate, I was reminded what the Lord has been teaching me through a book I have been reading, “One Thousand Gifts”.
I am learning to view all aspects of my life as gifts from God. It’s through an attitude of thankfulness that we find joy even when we don’t live glamorous lives. We spend each day washing dishes, doing laundry, holding babies, wiping off little faces, doing construction projects, cleaning bathrooms, you get the idea. It may sound mundane but I have found so much joy in learning to be thankful that the Lord has allowed me to be here to make sure these kids have someone to kiss them goodnight, a new school to go to, clean clothes and clean dishes.
The Lord has been challenging me to think about what this might look like when I return to the states. How would my life be different of I chose to look at all the little things as gifts? As bite sized Hershey bars;)
