A few days ago, after teaching at the school in the morning, I wanted to spend more time with the Lord. I took my Bible outside and sat down.
Across the way, I saw Carlos playing with a remote control truck. Carlos is a a 15 year old boy who used to live life on the streets. I had been wanting to connect with him.
I believe that the Lord prompted me to go play with Carlos. I hesitated; I wanted to spend time with Jesus alone on the Word. I finally set my Bible down and went over to play with Carlos. As we were playing and creating ramps for his truck, I felt a sense of peace and fellowship with the Lord. I asked Him why.
Three passages immediately came to mind. One was James 1:22-25. Those who are doers of God's Word are those who are blessed, not the hearers only (or the readers only). The second was John 14:21, those who obey Jesus are the ones who love Him, and Jesus reveals Himself to them. The third was 1 John 4:12, if we love one another, God abides in us and His love is perfected in us.
Sometimes fellowship and restoration are not found in just reading the Bible, they're found in living it. The Christ-follower who loves abides in God. This might mean that sometimes playing with remote control cars and children could bring a deeper communion with Jesus than reading His Word. Of course, we must always remember to withdraw to be with our Lord (Jesus did! Luke 5:16). But always decide to be a lover and a doer of His Word, and not a hearer only.
By the way, the Lord is opening doors to connect with Carlos and others through living life; please continue to pray for open doors, loving hearts, and Spirit-filled ministry.
