Broken Vessel

After the first week of ministry it has become more clear what life will be like for the next seven weeks. Though we have gone to several different places such as the dump, a prison, the street corner (we were on the news) and an Alcoholics Anonymous center I have come to realize that my main focus will be on the boys that we are living with here at Zion’s Gate. I start every morning by waking up Fernando and reading with him. He is usually still sleepy and there is not much room, so I sit in bed with him and I am forced to make my brain understand Spanish at eight in the morning....

Finding Joy in All Things

A few months ago, I remember laying in bed in the complete darkness. I could see nothing in my room other than the dim red light of the clock. As I thought about this darkness, I began to think about what life would be like without other senses. After a few minutes of thought, I decided that if I had to choose between being blind and being deaf, I would easily choose being blind. I made this decision because so much of my life is based around sound. I have been leading in musical worship actively for four years. I have played in a band just as...

Thankful for….the little things (that bring so much joy)

In John 10:10, the Lord says, “…I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it abundantly.” In these past days of being here in Honduras at Zion’s Gate Ministry, the Lord has shown this to be so true. It’s the little things, seemingly insignificant things that have been the most life-giving moments. We have been getting to know the property first and the boys that live here….and our contact has been so good at easing us into the various ministry sites that we will be at in the coming weeks.   You’re bound to hear specifics of...

With Great Delight…

"With great delight I sat in his shadow and his fruit was sweet to my taste" Song of Solomon 2:3   Like never before, I have been blessed with the opportunity to sit in His shadow. Over the past weeks, which it's hard to believe that I've been gone for that long, I have had the unprecedented opportunity to live with, for, and about His presence and will alone. I have lived with God and for God in deeper ways than ever before. Sleeping outside under a tarp, sleeping on a concrete floor with only a thin foam pad and my sleeping bag, living on a property with 60...

The God of Language

We’ve been here a little over a week and internet is hard to come by. Life’s been busy but good. Starting this week, Nolan and I have begun every morning by having Carlos and Fernando read to us for their school homework. I have loved loved loved getting to know the boys that live here with Tony. It’s so crazy to think that just a year ago, some of them were in very dark places, and now they’re helping me do my laundry…but really. These boys are living proof that Jesus can change and transform any life. As far as Spanish goes, I wouldn’t have it any...
