Joy in the Face of Death

On July 6th, our host, Gracie, called me in after devotions and told me she had a word for me. She told me that during devotions she just kept seeing a black, dark spot in my near future. She didn’t know anymore about it besides that it would be the hardest thing that I have had to face. She told me I needed to prepare and if I didn’t I would have a really rough time making it through. But if I prepared well, God would take me through with ease and I would be able to turn to him during the trial. That day I finally had a passion to dig into the Bible because I was able to see...

The New Gentleman in My Life

I always knew that He existed, but I was never really taught anything about Him. I never studied the word to get to know Him or to find out about who He is. I ignored His voice and pushed Him off of my mind. I’m talking about the Holy Spirit. My mind was literally blown the third night of training camp. We had a speaker come and give a session about the Holy Spirit. This was the first teaching I had ever heard on this topic. The very first point that the speaker made was this simple yet perspective changing truth: “The Holy Spirit is a “HE” not an it” I was so...

Change Is Possible

I haven’t wrote a blog since the first week, and I’m not really sure why because I love to write. I think it’s a great way to get out what you’re feeling, and blogging is even better because then people can see what you have to say and learn from it. I’ve been choosing to journal over blog which for me seemed like the better choice, and also easier. But now I’m realizing that it’s not just about me, it’s about the people who might come on this trip later or the people who need to read something that might help their relationship with God. So...

Choosing Joy & Cultivating Gratefulness

This past week, The Lord has really been teaching our team a lot about joy through the avenue of cultivating gratefulness. The book “One Thousand Gifts” (one you should check out if you’ve yet to read it) has been making its way across the team, along with some participant-led team times relating to this subject. It has really convicted my heart once again, since originally reading this book last fall. Yesterday we went out to prayer walk and do village ministry. We returned to a house some of the girls had prayed for the other day to check in on a few women. Since I had...

How Great is Your Influence?

How great is your influence? Adventures in Missions emphasizes the importance of feedback on the mission field. Everyday during our “team time” we have a time where we can give each other both positive and constructive feedback. I was honestly so skeptical when I first learned of it and definitely did not look forward to the first few feedback sessions. However, God has changed my heart and I have learned to appreciate it greatly. In the past couple weeks our team has been more open about giving constructive feedback to each other. Well, God sure has made it obvious what it is...

Refining Fire

This past week we have been a little short staffed, as far as nannies go, as Gracie has been in the process of hiring some new employees. Because of this, we have been spending even more time with the kids to help fill the gaps. Of course the kids have rules, many of which they don’t like to follow;) Don’t climb on top of the furniture, don’t eat the crayons, no hitting/biting, no swimming in the pilla, watch where you are going, ect. As I have watched the kids break the rules, throw tantrums, and be disciplined, the Lord has been revealing to me something about His...
