One Love

This morning our team went to the church service at the same ministry we are both working with and are hosted by. Many of the children staying here have been abandoned and are waiting for foster parents. Once we got downstairs for worship, my 4 year old friend Jasmine gave me a hug and stayed in my arms throughout the service . Having not been able to translate 90% of Jasmine’s many questions she’s had for me in these first two days this one question marked my heart. Out of nowhere Jasmine asked, “Do you have a mother?” I told her I did and hers eyes light up. She went...

Training Camp Did Good

Going into training camp, I was definitely nervous and a little excited, but not as much as I should of been. Before it even started I was wishing it was already over. After all the anticipation and waiting for the trip to finally come, I was so ready to be in Honduras that I didn’t even think about what training camp would do for me. Well of course, what I thought wouldn’t be a good time, ended up being a huge growing experience for me. It’s just another reason why I need to trust what the Lord is doing for me. Right away we were thrown right into it with staying in...

Water, Water, Water

I can’t seem to get away from water. I go to Texas (which was supposedly in a drought) for a month before my missions trip and it rained just about everyday. I mean the state is practically under water. The first night of training camp, it stormed really bad and our tented flooded. So, a lot of my clothes, suitcase, book bag, journal, sheets, and mattress all got wet. Let’s just say, it wasn’t the best way to start off my 2 month adventure. Upon arriving at Honduras, our host, Gracie, informs us that Honduras has also been in a drought. Well, I definitely got poured on in...

I’m WEAK!

This week, our team visited some local high schools in honor of One Nation One Day. Seeing as how Honduras is referred to as “the fatherless nation" and my team knew stories of how I could relate, I felt led to share the testimony of how God has shown Himself to be my father and what it means to be His daughter. I was super nervous at the idea of talking in front of a classroom full of Honduran teens, let alone doing it twice. In Spanish. So I got Kalynn (a fluent teammate) to translate for me the first time, but something felt off. I felt like a robot...

A Week of Growth

God chose this past week to really work on my heart. We had been visiting different ministries for a few days, and then the trip to Roatan was 14 hours. I was exhausted. This week was my breaking point. The weight of everything we had seen and done throughout the past 5 weeks just came crashing in on me. I was all of a sudden just spent. Physically, emotionally, spiritually, God used this week of travel to show me just how much I need him.  We always talk about needing The Lord. "God, give me strength for this or that" or "Lord, just get me through this", as if...

Conversations In La Kennedy

One of the ministries we've been a part of is reaching out to people living on the streets. We have been going into an area La Kennedy, and talking to people that have been called the trash of Honduras. Most days, a part of our team will go into a La Kennedy colony. The houses are shacks made out of wood, metal, and blankets. They are dirty places, with trash lying everywhere. Almost all of the people who live in these places have little bottles of paint thinner tucked in their pants with wet cloths held to their noses. I often ask the Spirit to lead and to guide, because I don't...
