Time is Precious

There is nothing I enjoy more than yelling GOAAAAAAL in a street soccer game. Except maybe seeing 7 year old William slide across the field on his knees and yell goal when we make one too.  This week has been awesome yet completely ordinary. It hit me hard when I took note of the date realizing my time here is halfway up. Every minute has become so much more valuable especially knowing we'll be traveling around a little this month therefore missing out on time with the kids here.  In the morning, after teaching the 6th grade class at the neighboring school I used to come back...

The Proverbs 31 Woman

"She is clothed with strength and dignity, she laughs without fear of the future. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue… Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears The Lord is to be praised." Proverbs 31:25-26, 30   I have never been one to call myself graceful. I am probably the opposite of graceful, especially physically. I can't catch a frisbe or hop a fence, and I certainly am lacking in typical dance skills. I sound like a mouse on the phone yet it is common for me to make noises like a pregnant...

Sovereign Over All

This week Sophia and I had the opportunity to start spending time with a girl who lives near the property. Mary lives right behind one of the pulperias (little roadside "shops" that have soft drinks and little snacks) that we go to a lot. We had spoken before, but Sunday she really wants to learn English. So now on weekday afternoons Sophia and I have the opportunity to go sit outside her house and build a relationship with her while we teach her English. It was really cool to see the way that God had her open up to us, the very first day she started telling me about her...

Sitting in silence

On Wednesday during our time at La Kennedy, I asked God to show me “the one person” that He wants me to meet. As soon as I silently prayed that, a girl that I had never seen before in LK was sitting down by herself, not eating, but getting high on paint thinner. I sat down next to her and asked her some basic questions — her name is Sarah, she is 15, has 8 brothers and sisters and lives a short bus ride away from LK. I could tell she wasn’t open to much conversation, and I asked God, What do you want me to say to her? He responded: I don’t want you to say...

Life, full of grace

It's been ringing through my head throughout this whole week. The amount of grace God has bestowed upon me to not only assimilate to the culture, but jump out of my comfort zones while living in Honduras is truly amazing.  Living in Honduras I am… 1) scaling mountains 2) eating rice and beans everyday 3) playing street soccer 4) rock climbing in river canyons 5) swinging from trees 6) sleeping in a tent 7) cooking Honduran meals 8) teaching English in a Honduran public school 9) washing clothes by hand  10) dodging larger-than-life water spiders Things that would...

Precious In His Eyes

This entire week I could not stop saying "precious." Everything our boys(meaning the kids at Zion's Gate) do is precious, from Roni trying to act out "swag" to  Anderson licking our knees under the table to Hector trying to learn the phrase "Ain't nobody got time fo dat!" I literally could not stop saying the word. If you could see these boys you would understand. Last Wednesday they were all in the bathroom talking, about 7 of them in one shower stall. I was suspicious as to why they were ALL in there, until they came parading out in new,...
