First Day In Talanga

Our first day in Honduras was awesome, filled with many different emotions and changes, but none the less, awesome! After about a 3 hour flight, we all got off the plane and immediately everyone in the airport was very friendly. After we all got our bags and checked in we found Mama Gracie standing there with her AIM T-shirt on with Alan (her driver) by her side. She had about 5 boxes of pizza in her hand and we all sat right in the airport and ate lunch as we chatted to get to know each other.

We drove about an hour to Talanga. Abby, Halston, Rebecca and I got to ride in the bed of Mama Gracie’s truck. I was a little hesitant at first, but once we started driving I noticed everyone was very respectful and locals would nicely wave to us.  Although it rained, it was so much fun!! I got to get some good pictures of the city as we drove through it.

We finally arrived! Right when we walked through the gates all the kids came running toward us. There are about 20+ kids here. They were very loving and just want us to hug them and play with them and talk to them. So that’s exactly what we did! It started to rain, so naturally, we all ran out in the rain and played and splashed in the puddles. At about 7 o’clock, the kids all went to bed. They gave me hugs and said goodnight and our team had dinner. We hade black beans, eggs, tortillas, and plantains for dinner. It was very good!! At about 9 o’clock we all went to bed.

It’s amazing to see the joy here despite all of their traumatic stories. I am so incredibly excited for this summer and what God has in store for my team and for the people of Honduras. I am very expectant this summer that The Lord is going to change my heart forever! I am blessed to have this opportunity to love on these children and women and help Mama Gracie and Papa Lee this summer. They are truly amazing people!
