Kow-a-Bunga!

In my past two updates, I’ve been pretty serious; with this post, I just want to update all of you on the ministries that we have been apart of and what our current plan is.
As of today, we have over two full weeks of ministry under our belts. During the first week, we were partnered up with the World Race team that is staying in the same place we are. During this time, we took part in several different ministries. I was privileged to lead worship at an Alcoholics Anonymous Rehabilitation Center at one point. As a group, we went to the Central Park in Tegucigalpa to hand out tracts and pray with people on the streets. Every Friday, we have had the opportunity to invade an intersection and hand out candy with scripture verses for the sake of creating a positive influence in a community usually full of corruption and violence.
In this past week, our team separated from the World Race team for Monday through Wednesday in order to do ministry in a local colony called Los Pinos. Los Pinos was formed after a hurricane (I believe it was in 1998) wiped out a colony. The government relocated the people, gave them minimal provisions, and left them to fend for themselves. Needless-to-say, this community is not very well off, and there is much gang activity and heavy use of drugs and paint thinner.
We went in on Monday and cleaned up a house that our ministry contact had built a while back for a family he works with. It had been trashed to the point of there being no livable space and trash everywhere you look. After an afternoon of hard work, this house was not only clean, but also completely livable with four beds, a table, and some shelves.
Tuesday, we went back and spent the night with boy who now lives in the house full time. We made pizzas for a bunch of kids in the community, we cooked oatmeal for plenty of kids in the morning, and we were blessed with a great time of being a positive influence and presence in the name of the Lord in that community.
Over the course of the next month, we will be serving in that community every week that we are in Tegucigalpa. On Thursday, we leave to go to San Pedro Sula for a week of ministry there, and, at the end of July, we will be going to Roatan for a week of ministry and a little bit of relaxation.
I would very much appreciate prayer for our team’s safety as we travel and minister in these communities. Also pray for the health of our team that we might be at our physical peak in order to serve the Lord in these areas to the best of our abilities.
On a side note, we may have convinced a lot of kids that back in the states we greet each other with the ninja turtle handshake and say “Kow-a-Bunga!” If you are unaware of the ninja turtle handshake, you can probably Google it and find out.
Anyway, Kow-a-Bunga dudes. Until next time…
