This morning our team went to the church service at the same ministry we are both working with and are hosted by.
Many of the children staying here have been abandoned and are waiting for foster parents.
Once we got downstairs for worship, my 4 year old friend Jasmine gave me a hug and stayed in my arms throughout the service . Having not been able to translate 90% of Jasmine’s many questions she’s had for me in these first two days this one question marked my heart. Out of nowhere Jasmine asked, “Do you have a mother?”
I told her I did and hers eyes light up. She went on to ask her name and wanted to know where my mom lived.
Having been around these kids and living in the same compound with them this question Jasmine had for me pushed all the right buttons.
These kids crave love. They crave hugs and eye contact and someone who will let you ride on their shoulders “just one more time.”
And it’s awesome that we can bring the hugs and eye contact and shoulders to ride. But it’s even more awesome that we alone can’t give a full love that their hearts desire. Christ’s love is the only full love. The only full love that can ever fill the crave in Jasmine’s heart.
