Our First Week!

Hey everyone! This past week has been a whirlwind. We had four days of training camp to prepare us for the field and to get to know our team. God has been so good in answering my prayers for team unity. There are eleven of us, and we have an awesome mix of different personalities and gifts that I believe will serve us well in the field.

We arrived at Zion’s Gate in Honduras on Tuesday after about 48 hours of little to no sleep, but even though I was exhausted God just gave me an amazing sense of peace when we arrived on the property and it has been great to see the work that God is already doing here.
One of the main ministries here is to street kids. There are several boys living here that were living on the streets, looking for food in garbage and always high on paint thinner that now have an opportunity to live here and get an education and learn about The Lord.

On Monday our team will begin teaching English to the sixth graders at the local public school. Children are only able to go to school through the sixth grade here unless their family has money to pay for private school, which almost none do. This will be one of our ministries for the two months we are here, we will teach the class every day and the groups coming after us to pick up where we left off for a total of six months of English classes. The children are so eager I learn and I look forward to building relationships with them.

While here we are on “Honduran time” where schedules are vague at best, and subject to being cancelled or pushed back with no notice. This first week God has been teaching me to rely in Him for security instead of a schedule. He has used constantly being subject to schedule changes (when there even is a schedule) to attack my dependence on being able to control my surroundings. I am so grateful for this opportunity to grow in my relationship with Him!
