On Wednesday during our time at La Kennedy, I asked God to show me “the one person” that He wants me to meet. As soon as I silently prayed that, a girl that I had never seen before in LK was sitting down by herself, not eating, but getting high on paint thinner. I sat down next to her and asked her some basic questions — her name is Sarah, she is 15, has 8 brothers and sisters and lives a short bus ride away from LK. I could tell she wasn’t open to much conversation, and I asked God, What do you want me to say to her? He responded: I don’t want you to say anything. Just sit with her. So I sat with her for a while, not saying anything. And when it was time to leave, I said goodbye. On the ride home, I kept thinking, why did You want me to just sit with her? Here’s a girl who is only 15 years-old and getting high on thinner, and I’m sitting right next to her with knowledge that she is loved by the Maker of the entire UNIVERSE! And all God wanted me to do was sit in silence. In that moment, God showed me that I had seen Sarah and judged that she was lonely and needed someone to talk to. But God knew what she actually needed — someone to sit by her side. I still don’t know the reason for this, but I am being taught that God knows exactly what we need and how to provide for that need, even if it might not make sense to us.
