20 Things About Living in Honduras for 2 Months

1- Produce is so cheap. The other day I bought 2 bananas, 2 mangos, and a HUGE carrot for 87 cents. 2- We take bucket showers. We use rain water that flows into buckets spaced throughout the compound. If it doesn’t rain, we have to order water that comes on trucks. We take showers once or twice a week. 3- The currency is called lempiras instead of dollars. 4- Peanut butter isn’t a thing. 5- We go to a pulperia at least once a day, sometimes twice! Pulperias are little houses that sell just about everything, but mainly snacks & drinks. They are EVERYWHERE. Our excuse for...

A Cornflake Craving

Every. Single. Morning. We have eaten a bowl of cornflakes for breakfast for the past 45 mornings without fail. Not once have I eaten something else or skipped out on having them. My day just wouldn’t be the same without them. I didn’t think they were anything special at first, but as the weeks went on I discovered a love for them. A love that turned into a craving. I wake up in the morning stoked because I know a bowl of cornflakes awaits me. Now I can’t imagine not having them to kick start my day…. It would be tragic! My entire day would be off if I...

The New Gentleman in My Life

I always knew that He existed, but I was never really taught anything about Him. I never studied the word to get to know Him or to find out about who He is. I ignored His voice and pushed Him off of my mind. I’m talking about the Holy Spirit. My mind was literally blown the third night of training camp. We had a speaker come and give a session about the Holy Spirit. This was the first teaching I had ever heard on this topic. The very first point that the speaker made was this simple yet perspective changing truth: “The Holy Spirit is a “HE” not an it” I was so...

Change Is Possible

I haven’t wrote a blog since the first week, and I’m not really sure why because I love to write. I think it’s a great way to get out what you’re feeling, and blogging is even better because then people can see what you have to say and learn from it. I’ve been choosing to journal over blog which for me seemed like the better choice, and also easier. But now I’m realizing that it’s not just about me, it’s about the people who might come on this trip later or the people who need to read something that might help their relationship with God. So...

How Great is Your Influence?

How great is your influence? Adventures in Missions emphasizes the importance of feedback on the mission field. Everyday during our “team time” we have a time where we can give each other both positive and constructive feedback. I was honestly so skeptical when I first learned of it and definitely did not look forward to the first few feedback sessions. However, God has changed my heart and I have learned to appreciate it greatly. In the past couple weeks our team has been more open about giving constructive feedback to each other. Well, God sure has made it obvious what it is...

3 Lessons From Papa Lee:

1) How to be a servant- Papa lee has such a servant heart, I learn so much from just his actions. He works so hard on the compound, outside in the heat, for HOURS! Not once have I heard him complain. One night when we were in devotions he told us that everything he does he does is for The Lord. The Lord is his motivation to keep going everyday. Papa Lee doesn’t need praise from everyone for everything he does. He is okay with being behind the scenes because he know he is serving his God and that is the most important thing. Papa Lee truly has the same attitude of Jesus Christ when he...
