Precious In His Eyes

This entire week I could not stop saying "precious." Everything our boys(meaning the kids at Zion's Gate) do is precious, from Roni trying to act out "swag" to  Anderson licking our knees under the table to Hector trying to learn the phrase "Ain't nobody got time fo dat!" I literally could not stop saying the word. If you could see these boys you would understand. Last Wednesday they were all in the bathroom talking, about 7 of them in one shower stall. I was suspicious as to why they were ALL in there, until they came parading out in new,...

Spiritual Landscape of Honduras

Spiritual landscape of Honduras: 80% of birth certificates do not have a father’s signature; a lot of children grow up fatherless, leaving mothers to raise and provide for the entire family Honduras has the #1 intentional homicide rate in the world  mostly because of  prevalent gang violence and drug trafficking Honduras is 80% Catholic and 20% Protestant, but these titles are mostly nominal and/or mixed with other religions; based on conversations that I’ve had so far, people have head knowledge of God as a “powerful creator”, but have no idea what it...

A Greater Adventure Still

What a week!  Last night in the truck on the way home from our street ministry in La Kenedy, my friend Roni who stays at Zion's Gate Ministries asked me "Como estas Chiquita?"(how are you). I answered "Happy." He asked why, and I told him because I was with my friends, I am loved by God, and this is an adventure. And Honduras truly is an adventure. It is completely different than anything I've ever experianced. Let me explain. Everywhere you look, mountains. Tall, rocky and green, the mountains in Honduras are the primary feature, causing the roads to curve...

Ohhh Middle School

Middle School, the time period every girl describes as point blank, hell. I remember the first day of middle school, wearing Limited Too was absolutely no longer acceptable and Abercrombie popped collars were a necessity. I soon realized that first day that having my mom pull up my hair for me was no longer acceptable. This conclusion being because almost every girl was wearing their hair curled like Lizzie McGuire.  Middle school here isn't quite so stereotypical, but here or home I promise you I wouldn't want to go back. Our first day teaching English to the...

La Kennedy

Most of my ministry this week was done in the Colony Kennedy (La Kennedy) in a community of about thirty people which is located right on top of a dump site.  This was our first full week of ministry and jumping into everything on the property and with teaching, but the entire past couple weeks I have felt pushed by the Lord to do street ministry.  This was even more evident to me when I was put into the first group to go to La Kennedy.  Initially, we had planned to do two groups of six and then switch after a group had been there for two days.  After the first day, Tony...

Do You Speak Churches?

Blogging 1st week blog Do You Speak Churches? I arrived safely with my team in Honduras after a long morning in the airport, having left trainig camp at 1:30 in the morning on Monday. Tony Dien, our host, was waiting for us at the airport with half the kids from Zion’s Gate Ministry, holding up signs with the names of all of our teammates. It was truly heartwarming. As much as I had prepared for my trip, I did not practice my Spanish Luke my mother told me to. My tenses are awful, but my most classic blunder was the question “Tu habla inglesias?” I meant to ask if they...
