Refining Fire

This past week we have been a little short staffed, as far as nannies go, as Gracie has been in the process of hiring some new employees. Because of this, we have been spending even more time with the kids to help fill the gaps. Of course the kids have rules, many of which they don’t like to follow;) Don’t climb on top of the furniture, don’t eat the crayons, no hitting/biting, no swimming in the pilla, watch where you are going, ect. As I have watched the kids break the rules, throw tantrums, and be disciplined, the Lord has been revealing to me something about His...

Take Me to the River

February 8, 1993: Born. A sinful being into a broken world.  July 11, 1993: Infant Baptized. My parent’s dedication to raise me in the Lord. October 10-14, 2008: Saved. The most messy and beautiful few days of my life. September 24, 2011: Baptized in the Spirit. Radically healed and filled. July 6, 2015: Baptized in Water. In Honduras by a Spiritual Father. …a great story and timeline. Well, of course, I’m partial- it’s mine! And maybe it doesn’t quite follow the norm. A million questions flood my mind…        Why did I wait 7...

Cabin Fever

We live within the same walls as our ministry. We sleep one floor above the 22 kids that we get to love on every day. On the weekends we get to go into town, watch local soccer games or take the drive to Tegucigalpa. Throughout the week our work typically remains inside of the compound. We’ve just hit the second month mark….and it’s safe to say that I have caught the cabin fever bug.   In devotions last week Papi Lee shared some words that began a healing process for my case of cabin fever. He talked about a conversation he had with a group of World Racers. Asking...

Turning to a Child For Wisdom

The last week has been hard in finding purpose in what we are doing here in Honduras. We spend most days moving gravel, washing dishes, and hurting more than helping when we try to help with the kids’ school. A lot of us have been feeling kind of stuck. With that being said, last night after devotions a little boy ran up to me and grabbed my Bible. He is only one years old and and grabs anything he can. But yesterday I really think God worked through him. He grabbed my Bible, opened up to Isaiah, and pointed to chapter 49. I felt God telling me it was significant, so I put my bookmark...

Why, God?

Why, God? Why do people get cancer? Why are there natural disasters? Why are families broken? Why can’t I get the job I want? Why didn’t I get into my dream school? Why did my friend betray me? Why am I always alone?    There are so many why questions when it comes to the way the Lord works. The one that haunts me the most here is… “why wasn’t I rescued sooner?”   Sometimes I think I can explain away all of the other why questions with phrases like “He is building you up” or “He has something better for you”. While...

When You Just Have to Laugh

Maybe one of the most important lessons I have learned on the field thus far is how to laugh, in just about every situation. Here are some examples…   When you have plain cornflakes for breakfast…every morning   When two of your teammates get diagnosed with Dengue fever and chikungunya at the same time     When there is a scruffy dog that roams the doctor’s office, including the exam rooms and the lab   When you have searched the country for peanut butter with no success     When it hasn’t rained in days and there is no water to...
