First Day In Talanga

Our first day in Honduras was awesome, filled with many different emotions and changes, but none the less, awesome! After about a 3 hour flight, we all got off the plane and immediately everyone in the airport was very friendly. After we all got our bags and checked in we found Mama Gracie standing there with her AIM T-shirt on with Alan (her driver) by her side. She had about 5 boxes of pizza in her hand and we all sat right in the airport and ate lunch as we chatted to get to know each other.    We drove about an hour to Talanga. Abby, Halston, Rebecca and I got to ride in the...

Free Falling

Within five hours of being in Honduras, my heart was convicted. We were all sitting in the living room learning about the ministry taking place here in Honduras and what Gracie’s plan for Heart of Christ is, when Gracie called me out on the spot. She was talking about how she is learning to trust in the Lord and how He will always give you more than you can handle so you have to lean on Him and won’t try and fight earthly troubles by yourself. All of a sudden she couldn’t stop looking into my eyes, every time she would look away she was drawn right back. She brought this...

If you would’ve asked me…

If you would’ve asked me two years ago if I would like to be a missionary to Central America, I would’ve said “No, I’d much rather prefer Southeast Asia; I just don’t have a heart for Central American countries.”  If you would’ve asked me two months ago what I was doing in the coming season, I would’ve told you I’d be working in order to pay off the remainder of my student loans and save up “for the next big thing”. If you would’ve asked me two weeks ago what I was doing with my summer, I would’ve...

One Love

This morning our team went to the church service at the same ministry we are both working with and are hosted by. Many of the children staying here have been abandoned and are waiting for foster parents. Once we got downstairs for worship, my 4 year old friend Jasmine gave me a hug and stayed in my arms throughout the service . Having not been able to translate 90% of Jasmine’s many questions she’s had for me in these first two days this one question marked my heart. Out of nowhere Jasmine asked, “Do you have a mother?” I told her I did and hers eyes light up. She went...

Conversations In La Kennedy

One of the ministries we've been a part of is reaching out to people living on the streets. We have been going into an area La Kennedy, and talking to people that have been called the trash of Honduras. Most days, a part of our team will go into a La Kennedy colony. The houses are shacks made out of wood, metal, and blankets. They are dirty places, with trash lying everywhere. Almost all of the people who live in these places have little bottles of paint thinner tucked in their pants with wet cloths held to their noses. I often ask the Spirit to lead and to guide, because I don't...

Sovereign Over All

This week Sophia and I had the opportunity to start spending time with a girl who lives near the property. Mary lives right behind one of the pulperias (little roadside "shops" that have soft drinks and little snacks) that we go to a lot. We had spoken before, but Sunday she really wants to learn English. So now on weekday afternoons Sophia and I have the opportunity to go sit outside her house and build a relationship with her while we teach her English. It was really cool to see the way that God had her open up to us, the very first day she started telling me about her...
